New applications for the Motability Scheme remain strong and the scheme recently began to grow again following the impact of the welfare reform changes. The car fleet is currently at 610,000, with an additional 15,000 powered wheelchair and scooter customers.
Renewal rates remain steady; however there is still lower uptake of the Scheme among newly eligible PIP recipients. This is mainly down to lack of awareness of the scheme.
We continue to offer a selection of over 2000 cars to suit customers’ needs and budgets; this includes over 350 costing the same as the mobility allowance, requiring no advance payment. There are also more than 100 cars available to lease at less than the mobility allowance, meaning the remainder of the allowance, including any increases, will be paid directly to the customer by the Department for Work and Pensions.
